RSA BombalaThe Far South Coast Community College recently completed it's first course in Bombala, offering the Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate run locally at the NSW Rural Fire Service Fire Control Centre. The College is hoping to increase the number of courses offered in Bombala and other locations so residents do not need to travel outside their community to receive quality adult education. If you have six people for a course we can run a course of your topic in your area. Contact Susan Gordon at the college to make enquiries. The College thanks the NSW Rural Fire Service for offering it's excellent training facility as a local venue to run courses.

Broadband for SeniorsThe Far South Coast Community College now offers a Seniors Internet Kiosk courtesy of a NEC/Australian Government's Broadband for Seniors funding grant. Seniors in the community can access free training in the use and benefits of the internet and gain valuable skills to assist them to take part in the digital world. The kiosk is open during College hours and the steady stream of clients is increasing as the word gets around. One of the most pleasing aspects in the number of seniors who have then progressed to purchasing their own computers and are setting up at home. The College has also been involved with this development and assists seniors to make this transition. During the College renovations the Kiosk has been housed in the general training room, but will have its own space very soon. Please call the College on 6492 0052 to book in for training, inquire about access or find out more.

4/2/10 The college is undergoing a transformation thanks to an ICET grant from the Australian Federal Government. The money is being used to upgrade and expand the college’s premises in Church St Bega. The college began its transformation in July 2009 when we expanded into the area behind our exisiting office to create a second training room. New floor coverings have now been laid throughout the office and training areas and new kitchenettes are currently being built ready for installation soon. Internally a new reception area will open up onto street frontage in Church Street. This will increase our street presence and improve access which is currently through an entrance in the lane way. The remainder of the work including the expansion of the rear deck to provide wheel chair access is scheduled over the next few months should be completed before the end of the Term 1. Our tutors and students can look forward to a much more comfortable learning environment in 2010. Ruth Ayling, Manager
Investing in Community Education and Training (ICET) ProjectIn 2009, the Australian Government announced the Teaching and Learning Capital Fund (TLCF) for Vocational Education and Training (VET). The program, as part of a $4.7 billion nation-building infrastructure package to support Australia's economy. Investing in Community Education and Training (ICET) - a total of $100 million - was made available to community education and training providers, who were able to apply for small capital grants of between $50,000 (GST exclusive) and $250,000 (GST exclusive) to assist with maintenance or the purchase of equipment and for larger grants of $250,000 to $1.5 million (GST exclusive) for major capital infrastructure developments or upgrades. The Far South Coast Community College was awarded a grant of $63,500 to help fund an $80,000 project to upgrade its premises and infrastructure at 32 Church Street Bega NSW. These improvements include new floor coverings, a new street-front reception area, 2 new kitchenettes, gas heating, roof insulation and cooling, hot water, widening of doors for disabled access and a new disabled access ramp at the rear of the college. Landlords, Ingoodwe Trust, and the College have also contributed to the refurbishment.
